PlasticsEurope, EuPC and EFRA Common position document, about Plastics Industry views on the EU Ecolabel Scheme

The Plastics Industry generally welcomed the changes made to the Regulation, and in particular supported the clear general requirements for the Ecolabel criteria to be based on science and to take the whole life cycle of the product into account (Article 6(3)).
Unfortunately, some of the decisions taken to date within the European Ecolabelling Board (EUEB) are not in line with these requirements, and the Plastics Industry therefore wishes to stress its ongoing concerns:
1- The importance of a sound scientific basis
2- Selection of the most significant environmental impacts
3- Reduction in the number of criteria
4- Consistency with existing legislation
5- Excessive emphasis on criteria for packaging
6- Avoidance of contradicting criteria
7- Need for a notification system
8- Link between Ecolabel and GPP
9- Frequency of criteria revision
10- Ecolabels are not suitable for some product categories
11- Product selection
